In 1989, a group of exceptionally talented musicians from Texas came together to form a band initially known as ‘The Dixie Chicks,’ later transitioning to ‘The Chicks.’ The lineup included Laura Lynch, Robin Lynn Macy, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer.
Tragically, The Chicks recently announced the premature passing of Laura Lynch. On December 22, 2023, a devastating accident occurred near El Paso, Texas, claiming Lynch’s life. She was 65 years old at the time of the accident.
According to KCRA, authorities revealed that Lynch was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred on highway U.S. 62. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other driver involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. The Chicks paid tribute to Lynch on Instagram, sharing a poignant video of her captivating performances on stage, accompanied by a heartfelt caption. They expressed deep shock and sadness upon hearing the news of her passing, recalling the cherished moments spent making music, sharing laughter, and traveling together.
The Chicks fondly remembered Lynch as a “bright light,” attributing her infectious energy and humor to bringing a vibrant spark to the band’s early days. Despite her tenure spanning only three albums, Lynch’s contributions were invaluable. She adeptly played the standup bass and even contributed vocals to the third album. Lynch left the band in 1993, paving the way for Natalie Maines, who joined in 1995.
