Kathy Bates, the acclaimed Academy Award-winning actress, recently opened up about her ongoing battle with an “incurable” condition during an interview with Dr. Phil. In a candid revelation, she shared her second bout with cancer following her triumph over ovarian cancer.
“It’s no secret that I am an ovarian cancer survivor, nine years and counting. But few know that several weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Bates disclosed. Reflecting on the emotional turmoil, she added, “You think American Horror Story is scary? You should’ve been in that room with me.”
Despite facing adversity once again, Bates chose to keep her struggles private, undergoing surgeries and chemotherapy without disclosing her condition to anyone. Recounting this difficult decision, she explained, “I didn’t want anyone to know, but it really took a lot out of me.”
Currently in remission, Bates continues to confront challenges, including lymphedema, an incurable condition affecting approximately 30 percent of breast cancer survivors, stemming from lymph node removal.
