Renowned Hollywood icon Richard Gere recently experienced a bout of pneumonia while celebrating his wife Alejandra Silva’s 40th birthday at their retreat in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Fortunately, the 73-year-old ‘American Gigolo’ star has assured concerned well-wishers that he is steadily recovering.
The festivities at their holiday home came to a pause when Richard was admitted to a local hospital, momentarily interrupting their joyous celebrations.
Alejandra took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message along with a tender photo of herself and Richard walking hand in hand with one of their sons, expressing, “I woke up this morning to the news and your kind and concerned messages. He is on the mend… feeling considerably better today! The worst is behind us! Your warm messages mean the world to us! #grateful.”
TMZ reports revealed that Richard had been dealing with a persistent cough before their vacation, which worsened during their trip, leading to medical intervention.
The couple tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in 2018 after nearly three years of courtship and have two children together, both of whom accompanied them on their trip.
Alejandra also mentioned on Instagram that the entire family had been unwell, though she didn’t specify their illnesses. She expressed appreciation for the flood of birthday wishes, saying, “After nearly three weeks of illness circulating within our family, today I finally feel a significant improvement! Your love is deeply appreciated. I reciprocate it wholeheartedly!”
Richard, who was previously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford and actress Carey Lowell, shares two sons with Alejandra, along with a 22-year-old son from his previous marriage. Alejandra’s son Albert, nine, from a previous relationship, is also part of their blended family.
Reflecting on his third marriage, the actor shared, “I’ve found the peaceful and contented life I’ve always sought.”
Alejandra also reflected on their union, saying, “I was lost, lacking direction and purpose, and meeting him illuminated the path I was meant to take. It felt like someone had extended a guiding hand and revealed my true journey.”
